A best-selling live masterclass – the climbing rose – now available as a video course!
What you'll learn in this lesson:
1. Create a climbing rose flower. The basis of this lesson is the creation of a distinctive half-opened flower. We'll emphasize its spiral structure and spherical center.
Unlike the classic hybrid tea rose, this version has a more three-dimensional appearance, with the center significantly extended from the plane.
2. Create botanically accurate leaves. A climbing rose leaf is more than just a green blade. We'll create leaves with an oval-pointed shape and serrated edges, which add realism and character to the work.
3. We'll work on the stem and thorns. A flexible stem, 1.5–2 meters or more long, is the signature feature of the climbing rose. We'll create it by conveying a flexible growth line and adding sharp thorns, which are an integral part of its appearance.
4. We'll paint watercolor leaves in the background. In addition to sculptural painting techniques, we'll enrich the composition by learning to paint translucent, light watercolor leaves. This technique will fill the background, add airiness, and make your work even more artistic.
5. We'll use a beautiful turquoise color scheme, where cool and warm tones harmoniously intertwine, not clashing, but supporting each other.
